Leopard Mountain Game Lodge overlooks a vast stretch of unspoiled bushland and riverine forests, from the Umsunduze River meandering below to the distant Lebombo Mountains, the lodge has one of the most spectacular views in Zululand. Leopard Mountain Game Lodge is nestled on the cliff-tops, overlooking the meandering Msunduze River. Your luxurious stone and thatch chalet provides a haven of peace and tranquility where you can watch the sun and moon rise over an African plain that has not changed since before the birth of man. Each chalet is light and spacious with its own private balcony and hammock, incredible view, en-suite bathroom, mini bar and tea and coffee facilities.

The Zululand Rhino Reserve is the second release site of the WWF/ Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Black Rhino Range Expansion Project. The reserve is home to four of the Big Five, a wide variety of antelope and some inquisitive giraffe. Jackals, genets, hyenas, porcupines, etc have also been spotted on the reserve. Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, Africa's oldest reserve, was first declared a Game Sanctuary in 1887 before which it was hunting ground for the Zulu kings. It is also internationally acclaimed for its conservation efforts and boasts the largest population of Black and White Rhino in the world.
Itinerary
Day 1:
It’s an early start with a Wild Africa Safari Co Land Rover collecting you at 6am for the drive up the north coast and into the Hluhluwe Imofolosi Game Park. We explore the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, Africa's oldest reserve and home to the “Big Five”, first declared a Game Sanctuary in 1887 before which it was hunting ground for the Zulu kings such as Dingiswayo and Shaka. It is also internationally acclaimed for its conservation efforts and boasts the largest population of Black and White Rhino in the world. The park covers 96 000 ha and the wide range of plant life hosts a diversity of mammals, birdlife, reptiles and amphibians. Animals to be seen include The Big Five – lion, rhino, elephant, buffalo and leopard, other species including cheetah, wild dog, blue wildebeest, warthog, and giraffe as well as a varied antelope such as impala, waterbuck, common and mountain reedbuck, bushbuck, kudu, steenbuck and duiker. Over 300 species of birds have been recorded.
We stop at a restcamp for lunch, and depart for our luxury accommodation at the private Leopard Mountain Game Lodge, an award winning 4 star lodge located high up in the wild secluded hills of the 23 000 ha Zululand Black Rhino Reserve; home to the Big 4 (rhino, elephant, buffalo and leopard). The lodge has one of the most spectacular views in Zululand, overlooking a vast stretch of unspoiled bushland and riverine forests, from the Umsunduze River meandering below to the distant Lebombo Mountains.
This picture perfect backdrop of the African bushveld lends itself to the perfect setting for a romantic getaway or an authentic wildlife experience. Your luxurious stone and thatch chalet provides a haven of peace and tranquility where you can watch the sun and moon rise over an African plain that has not changed since before the birth of man. Each chalet is light and spacious with its own private balcony and hammock, incredible view, en-suite bathroom, mini bar and tea and coffee facilities. The main lodge features a very comfortable dining room, bar, lounge and deck area and a unique rock pool to cool off while still enjoying the amazing view.
The reserve includes an abundance of game, including leopard, cheetah, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, jackals, genets, hyenas, porcupines and a wide diversity of flora and prolific birdlife.
After a short rest and a dip in the pool, its time for a sunset game drive in an open vehicle to look for game. The day is rounded off with a superb dinner.
Day 2:
The day starts with an early morning game drive, followed by a hearty breakfast at the lodge. We check out and head for either a zulu traditional village visit, or more game viewing at the Hluhluwe Imfolosi Reserve before returning to Durban early evening.
